Strawberry vs. Blueberry vs. Cranberry: Who Actually Wins?
The Valley’s favorite argument has a twist ending: all three berries win, at different things. Here is which one YOUR farm needs, and the machine rule that prints money with any of them.
All three win a category. Cranberries take the biggest season payday per tile (about 3,083g as Artisan wine), but their seeds cost 240g. The strawberry is the best single fruit (504g as wine), so hoard Egg Festival seeds for a Year 2 mega-spring. Blueberries are the cheapest and easiest of the three: an 80g seed returns 6.5×, it is on Pierre’s shelf from Summer 1, and their berries belong in JARS, never kegs. When machines are the question, run dehydrators overnight, jar the overflow, and save the kegs for strawberries.
1Pick your berry by season and wallet
- Spring: strawberries, but only if you brought seeds home from the Egg Festival. No other berry comes close per fruit, which is what makes that once-a-year seed stall worth planning around.
- Summer: blueberries have some serious competition this season: hops and starfruit can definitely give them a run for their money, but blueberries are a great crop in year 1 where you don’t yet have kegs or access to the Calico Desert. For 80g each and producing 3 berries per pick, they are definitely going to be profitable in the early game.
- Fall: cranberries, if summer left you with capital to spend. The 240g seed is triple a blueberry field’s cost, which stings up front, but no berry tile earns more across a season once it is paid.
2The strawberry play (read before Spring 13!)
- Bring your whole wallet to the Egg Festival (Spring 13). Seeds are 100g and sold nowhere else, one day a year.
- Year 1: plant some that evening for farming XP, hoard the rest.
- Year 2+: plant everything on Spring 1 with Speed-Gro. That is 6 harvests instead of 2, and about 2,984g per tile as wine.
- Sell gold-star strawberries raw with Tiller; machine the rest.
Quality rolls only happen on the FIRST berry of each pick. Strawberries get the quality bonus on every fruit; blueberries only on 1 of 3. That is why fancy fertilizer is a strawberry purchase and a blueberry waste.
3The blueberry jar rule
There is a quirk in the jelly formula worth knowing: jelly pays double the fruit’s price PLUS a flat 50g. Blueberries sell for exactly 50g, so their jelly (210g with Artisan) matches their wine to the gold, and the jar finishes in 2.5 days instead of the keg’s 6.25. Same money, less than half the wait, which is why blueberries have no business in a keg. Jars also unlock much earlier (Farming 4 vs 8) and cost pocket change to build.
4Where the dehydrator fits in
The 1.6 dehydrator (10,000g recipe at Pierre’s, or free if your farm cave has mushrooms) eats 5 fruit overnight. Per fruit it pays the least of any machine, but per DAY one dehydrator adds more value than ten kegs. The winning setup for any berry farm: fill every dehydrator each morning, jar the overflow, and save kegs for fruit that deserves the wait.
Two things can catch you out: all 5 fruit in a dehydrator batch must share the same quality tier, and foraged blackberries should never go in the dryer if you have Bear’s Knowledge. That buff only boosts raw sales, so drying those berries turns a bonus into a loss.
| Per tile, per season (Artisan wine) | Net gold | Seed |
|---|---|---|
| Cranberry (Fall 1) | 3,083g | 240g |
| Strawberry (Spring 1, Year 2+) | 2,470g | 100g, festival only |
| Blueberry (Summer 1, use jars!) | 2,457g | 80g, no gates |
