Are Perfection Waivers actually worth it in Stardew Valley 1.6?
Some shady dude in a cave will sell you 1% perfection for 500,000g each. Question is, is it worth it or a ripoff?
Buy 10 waivers instead of the Gold Clock (saves you a clean 5,000,000g). Going fast? Buy 14 and skip the obelisks too. Keep 1 or 2 spare for emergencies like missed legendary fish. NEVER buy past 16: everything else on the tracker is cheaper (and more fun) to just play.
1How to unlock Fizz
- Finish the Community Center (or the Joja route, both work).
- Fix Willy’s boat: 200 hardwood, 5 iridium bars, 5 battery packs. Sail to Ginger Island.
- Spend 10 golden walnuts to open the Dig Site bridge.
- Collect 100 walnuts total to open Qi’s Walnut Room.
- Check the perfection statue in the Walnut Room. Fizz mails you the next morning, then waits in the mushroom cave near the Dig Site with a very large price list.
2The magic numbers: 10, 14, 16
The perfection tracker charges you 10% for buying the Gold Clock, which costs 10,000,000g. That is 1,000,000g per point. Fizz charges 500,000g per point. Ten waivers buy you the same 10% at half the price, and the only thing you skip is a purchase, not a piece of the game. This is about as close to a consensus as the community gets.
The four obelisks work the same way (about 750,000g per point once you count the iridium), so waivers 11 through 14 are also a win IF you do not care about the teleports. Waivers 15 and 16 are your emergency fund. Past that? Everything left on the tracker costs almost nothing to play. Buying waiver 17+ is donating to Joja shareholders.
| Which player are you? | Buy | Why |
|---|---|---|
| The Purist | 0 | Every point earned. Valid! Expensive! (13,000,000g at the Wizard’s.) |
| Most players | 10 | Skip the Clock, build the obelisks, save 5,000,000g. |
| Racing the calendar | 14 + 2 | Skip all the buildings, hold two for emergencies. |
| Speedrunner | Route says | Waivers delete whole activity blocks. The record fell from 23½ hours to under 10. |
3What never to waive
Walnuts (you need 100 to even meet Fizz, and on Joja saves a parrot sells the rest at half Fizz’s rate). Skill levels (they happen by playing). Monster goals (you are already in Skull Cavern for iridium). Crafting (recipes come free with skills and friends). Cooking has a secret weapon instead: the Queen of Sauce Cookbook, 50,000g from the wandering Bookseller, teaches every TV recipe instantly. The book beats a waiver 33 times over.
Waivers register the NEXT morning, so do not panic when the statue does not move right away. Buy your last waiver a day before you want the Summit cutscene. And if you are stuck at 99% and cannot figure out why: check the fish tab. It is always the fish tab.
Reserve waivers are insurance for real calendar traps: Kent does not exist until Year 2 (friendship gate), the Legend fish needs a rainy spring day at fishing level 10, and the museum’s last artifact can hide for literal in-game years. One or two waivers turn any of those from a lost year into a fixed price.
The complete category-by-category audit (all eleven weights, the four waiver bands, and the speedrun data) is in The Gem Sea Journal’s special report. Fourteen pages of a newspaper taking a video game extremely seriously. We respect it.
