The Dog Statue Explained: When to Pay 10,000g to Switch Professions

There is a statue in the Sewers that lets you change your professions for 10,000g. Timed well, it is the cheapest raise you will ever get. Timed badly, it eats a whole day of profits. This guide covers when to pay, when to wait, and the one day you should never sell anything.

★ Quick Answer

The play that matters most: farm with Agriculturist while you are planting, then pay the statue ONCE and switch to Artisan before your first big wine sale. Eleven bottles of ancient fruit wine cover the whole fee. The mistake that matters most: NEVER ship anything on the day you use the statue, because you get neither profession’s bonus that day. Sell your backlog, pay, sleep, and THEN sell the stockpile. As a small bonus, any respec night hands you a free full-energy morning.

1How to respec

  1. Get in: the Sewers open with the Rusty Key (60 museum donations). The dog statue is past Krobus.
  2. Pay 10,000g and pick ONE skill (farming, mining, fishing, foraging, or combat).
  3. Sleep. Both profession screens for that skill reappear overnight. Want to change only the level 10 choice? Re-pick your same level 5 branch.
  4. Relax: your XP and levels are completely untouched. Anyone who told you the statue resets levels is wrong.

2The dead-zone day

The moment you pay, your OLD bonuses turn off. Your NEW ones do not start until tomorrow morning. Anything you put in the shipping bin on statue day gets NEITHER bonus. So the ritual is always three beats: ship your last batch under the old professions, pay the statue and sleep, then sell the big stockpile tomorrow. In a hurry? Sell to Pierre, Marlon, or Willy directly; shop counters use your live professions instantly.

⚠ Heads Up

Playing multiplayer as a farmhand? There is a long-standing bug where the shipping bin uses the HOST’s professions. Sell your stuff at the shops in person, every time. And on console or mobile: save before you pet the dog; respecs have a bug history there.

3When the statue pays for itself

Profession bonuses apply when you SELL, not when you make things. That chest of iridium bars from last year? It sells at Blacksmith prices the morning after you take Blacksmith. For the break-even math, the fee is repaid by 7 radioactive bars, 11 ancient fruit wines, 20 iridium bars, or 45 diamonds. If your chests already hold more than that, the swap pays for itself before lunch.

★ Pro Tip

Foragers: quality is decided when you PICK, so respec into Botanist the night before Salmonberry or Blackberry week. Four days of bushes at iridium quality, then swap back if you like.

4The wool scheme (read before you try it)

The famous trick says: Shepherd makes your sheep produce daily iridium wool (which looms into 2 cloth each!), so stockpile cloth, then swap to Artisan and sell everything at +40%. The part the forum posts leave out: as a Shepherd you already have Rancher’s +20% on cloth, so the real gain is only +94g per cloth, and you need 107 of them just to break even one way. If sheep are your business, STAY Shepherd: two cloth a day at 564g beats one cloth at 658g by a wide margin. The scheme is only a clean win if you are retiring from sheep anyway: bank everything, swap once, sell out.

You have banked…Fee repaid?
7+ radioactive bars (to Blacksmith)YES
11+ ancient fruit wines (to Artisan)YES
45+ diamonds (to Gemologist)YES
A pile of jelly and cheeseNO (needs 200–400+)
Anything, shipped on statue dayNEVER (dead zone!)
